Kevin Hingston has been named champion brewer at the 2013 ACT Amateur Brewing Championships. The Canberra Brewers hosted the competition and received a record 250 entries, which were judged at the Canberra Club on October 12.

Hingston entered 22 beers in the competition and won the title for receiving the highest scores for his top-five entries: a Belgian golden strong ale, a weizen (wheat) beer, a quince hefeweizen, and a California common.

The top three beers from each of the 18 categories judged qualified for the Australian Amateur Brewing Championships, which will be hosted in Canberra on November 1 and 2. The national competition will attract 15 qualified judges from interstate, plus about 15 of Canberra’s best judges.
