Joseph Kromy 2013 SGR Delikat Riesling. $28.

If I had one New Year's resolution for all wine drinkers it might be: drink more riesling. It's a noble variety that tastes like nothing else. High natural acidity gives riesling line, length and ageing potential while its delicate aromatics are almost unmatched by any other variety. It comes in all shapes and sizes, from searingly dry to lusciously sweet and everywhere in between.

Joseph Kromy 2013 SGR Delikat Riesling is the latest inspirational riesling I've tried. The SGR stands for "60 grams" residual sugar so there's definitely an impression of sweetness here. It's framed, however, by some delicious zesty citrus acidity so the sweetness is not as apparent as you might think. The flavours are reminiscent of lime, guava and honeysuckle. This is riesling in a more Germanic style but it's well-suited to Australian dishes and conditions.

This is the perfect wine for Thai and the many other spiced aromatic dishes that come from South East Asia. You could drink it on its own and a little time in the cellar will see it gain further levels of interest and complexity, although its bright, fresh, youthful flavours are too tempting for me to leave it alone for any length of time.
