Peter and Hannah Logan have a showpiece cellar door just outside Mudgee, although they source grapes from other areas, including Orange. Apple Tree Flat is their entry level, and often delivers surprising value for money. This one is 78 per cent Mudgee. The colour is medium-deep red with purple tinges and it combines ripe, dark-fruit aromas with attractive hints of herb. It's medium-bodied and soft, with black-cherry flavours dominating the palate. It's ample, well-rounded and has a touch of elegance. 13.5 per cent alcohol.
Food Medium-hard cheeses or slow-cooked meats, braises and casseroles.
