The Crossing family of Orange regularly serves up an outstanding sauvignon blanc and, for me, it's clearly the best in the Orange region in a pure-fruit (as opposed to barrel-fermented) style. With crushed-leaf, salad greens and lightly spiced aromas and a touch of tropical fruits, it's crisp and fruity in the mouth, with loads of tangy varietal charm. The intensity of flavour is superior to most of its competitors - a sign the vines haven't been overcropped. Balance and drinkability are outstanding. Simply delicious summer drinking, and it will take a serious chill. The price is absurdly low. Best drunk young. 13 per cent alcohol.
