Made to commemorate Bill Hardy's contribution to this historic Australian winery, this William Hardy cabernet is great value. A cleverly made blend of 90 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 10 per cent merlot, it provides a taste of classic Coonawarra without breaking the bank. Its nose combines ripe and savoury elements such as blackcurrant liqueur, plum, capsicum, dark chocolate and cedar in appetising balance, and the medium-weight palate is intense and smooth. A dry finish of very fine tannins lends appetising austerity to the finish. (Screw cap; 14 per cent alcohol.)
