Another in a long line of $60+ wines that don't blow you away for the price tag. Yummy yes, but a 93pt score befits that of a $25 wine. Not a patch on Home Hill Pinot or Bellarmine at less than half to a quarter of the price. Style over substance...

Surely the critic could have written more than that? "refined with appealing softness mid-palate" - you don't even need to have tasted the wine to know that this are hallmarks of Downie's pinot noirs.

What a disappointing review, a little more detail would be nice! What RKP failed to mention is the refinement and delicacy of this wine. With a backbone of refined acidity and well structured tannin AND without the over expression of fruit like most Yarra Valley Pinots, this wine is drinking nicely now, and i can imagine it will age well too. My favourite of the 2012's is the Gippsland, but i think the Yarra Valley was tasting great.
