Elegant finger sandwiches, luscious chocolate cake and classic cream tea scones - all served up by the Parliament House culinary team in one of the courtyards of power.

Yes, you might be able to reflect on new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's first month in office in close proximity to the halls of government if you book in for one of Parliament House's spring tea sessions on October 3 and October 10.

Executive chef Cris Purcell and his team have put together platters of classic afternoon tea dishes, including egg and mayonnaise sandwiches, green apple macarons, apricot balls and a cream and jam topped scone.

It's also a tiny bit naughty, with a little glass of champagne and fruit jelly. And you won't miss out if you have dietary requirements - the spring tea is also available gluten free or for vegetarians or vegans.

Taking high tea is a very civilised pursuit in a place that's recently seen more backstabbing and infighting than an episode of Game of Thrones.

You'll be in the courtyard that usually houses the kids at the Parly creche.

Don't forget to bring your photo ID and arrive about 20 minutes early so you can get through the compulsory security screening when you enter Parliament House.

The Parliament House spring teas are on Saturday, October 3 and October 10 at 2pm. $55 plus booking fee. See canberraticketing.com.au
