Where to go for a feed at 1am
Chat Thai at Haymarket.
Hunger never sleeps, but there's no shortage of good food in the middle of the night. Here are Angie Schiavone's top picks for a post-party feed.
Craving heat
@bangkok
Shop G11, Capitol Square, 730-742 George Street, Sydney 9211 5232
Open until 4am Fri & Sat, 3am Sun, 2am Mon-Thurs
If chilli is what you need to keep the engine running, then this popular Thai restaurant with sparkly lights and splashes of orange might be just the ticket. Big, bold flavours are the go here, but if you're feeling a little worse for wear, the more easy-going noodle dishes are probably a better option.
Craving meat
Fatima's
294-296 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills 9698 4895
Open until 3am, daily
Fatima's has been sating the hunger pangs of late night revellers (and very early risers) for decades. It's no silver service establishment, but if it's grilled meats and kebabs you want, then it's grilled meats and kebabs you'll get.
Craving smoke
Seoul Ria
Level 2, 605-609 George Street, Sydney 9269 0222
Open until 2am Fri & Sat, midnight Sun-Thurs
If you miss going home after a night out with your clothes smelling of smoke, Korean barbecue is the answer! OK, so there probably aren't too many people who miss that – but it's worth it for a feast of DIY-BBQ, hotpots and classic Korean dishes. And anytime is a good time for kimchi.
Craving a quick fix
Harry's Cafe de Wheels
Corner Cowper Wharf Roadway & Brougham Road, Woolloomooloo 9357 3074
Open until 4am Fri & Sat, 1am Sun, 2am Mon & Tues, 3am Wed & Thurs.
Harry's is famous for opening late, and for pies – most notably The Tiger, with mushy peas, potato mash and gravy. The stalwart eatery is multiplying at rapid speed, and the Harry's at Haymarket, Parramatta, Penrith, Burwood and Tempe all open to different versions of "late", too.
Constant craving
Cafe Hernandez
60 Kings Cross Road, Potts Point 9331 2343
Open 24 hours, daily
Cafe Hernandez has been in the caffeine fixing business for 40 years. Open 'round the clock, all year, every year, it lures in those out late with the smell of beans roasting and coffee brewing, and the hope of a serve of churros to sweeten the deal.
Pancakes on the Rocks
4 Hickson Road, The Rocks 9247 6371
Open 24 hours, daily
For many, a visit to Pancakes is as much about taking a trip down memory lane as it is about pancakes. For others, it's all about those front doors that just never close.
