Ainslie addition

A new French cafe, themed on Brittany food, is to open in the Ainslie shops, replacing Restaurant 2602, which closes on September 28. 2602 owners Ben and Mel Eveille also have the Australian Pizza Kitchen, APK, downstairs in the Bailey’s Arcade and he will concentrate on that business, while she works for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. The couple’s daughter Grace, 12, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011, turning the family’s life upside down and requiring checks on her blood sugar and insulin injections many times a day. Mel Eveille says they’ve had 2602 for a decade, and it’s time to concentrate on their family. ‘‘I’m excited. Ben’s emotional about it,’’ she says.

The new cafe joins a number of food outlets at the shops, including Edgar’s Inn on the corner doing a big pub trade, and Pulp Kitchen winning critical praise.
