Best vegan cafes and restaurants in Sydney

A vegan diet rules out all animal and animal-derived products, so no meat, fish, dairy or honey. It's generally adopted for reasons relating to animal and environmental welfare, but advocates also claim health benefits such as reduced risk of heart disease, obesity and other health issues. Some take it a step further with a raw diet – food not heated to above 42-45C – with the view that food is most nutritious in its natural, raw state.

The name sums up the philosophy at this organic, vegan, raw food heaven. Start with super colourful salads or wraps made with coconut flatbread before moving on to the famed and much-photographed range of dairy-free "cheezecakes" and raw choc-doughnuts.

Cabramatta is famous for great cheap eats, especially Vietnamese, and among a handful of vegan-friendly eateries is this no-frills vegetarian joint with an epic menu of about 200 dishes. Note, faux meat (made from soy) does feature heavily.
