BYO wine at your service

Esther Han

A Sydney restaurant and wine business have launched the city's first BYO delivery service to attract both budget drinkers and wine connoisseurs.

Customers who book a table at Jimmy Liks in Potts Point for a Tuesday night next month can pre-purchase their favourite drops through online wine seller, Dynamic Wines. Bottles will then be waiting at the restaurant.

"The same bottle that might cost $60 or $70 at a restaurant can be $25 or $30 at a shop," said Clement Guidici, manager of Dynamic Wines. "This BYO-delivered service is cheaper and convenient."

If the service proves popular it may become available in other restaurants, meaning customers can avoid high mark-ups and frustrating price variations.

For Jimmy Liks owner Justin Maloney, the partnership allows diners to go beyond the "tight little wine list" and search for unusual wines.

"We do south-east Asian food, so my tip is to stay away from aged, oakey and overly dusty wines," he said. "Stay to more crisp and new world wines.''
