A local's top tips

Shane McPherson, owner, Penola IGA Fresh

"The soil over limestone here is extremely fertile and this a very good dairy and wine region.

One of our best-loved local producers is Kalangadoo Organic Orchards and we guarantee apples picked within the previous four days. Customers can't wait for those to come in. Other popular local producers include Robe Dairy yoghurts, Limestone Coast Cheese Company in nearby Lucindale and Coonawarra Honey.

We also have an extensive gourmet range including lovely cheeses, sauces and antipasti and we occasionally showcase the local wines and our cheeses and gourmet items with a tasting event in the carpark."
