The beaches of Thirroul are some of Australia's most beautiful and Austinmer, Coledale and Scarborough are all stunning.
Thirroul has a thriving arts scene and the annual Thirroul Arts & Seaside Festival in April and Scarborough Art Show in October celebrate the local flair.
Have a drink and a feed at the scenic Scarborough Hotel. Opened in 1887 and recently renovated, the historic hotel boasts magnificent clifftop views, seriously good pub tucker and is pet-friendly too, if you are taking your best friend on holiday with you.
Nearby Wollongong is an adventure paradise with sailing, skydiving, hang-gliding, and paragliding all available. There are 60 kilometres of cycle-ways and a five-kilometre trail around Mount Keira through rainforest and eucalypts.
The Grand Pacific Drive is a great excuse to hire a convertible. Drive along the Sea Cliff Bridge out over the ocean, stop at the viewing platform and take photos or look for dolphins and migrating whales.
David Hoade, Owner, IGA Thirroul
"Thirroul is not really a farming area but we seek to support small family businesses and start-ups as they try to get to market. We have a very large range of gourmet items and we actively promote these.
We stock a gluten-free range of Dahl-based vegan and vegetarian meals from Dahlicious, biodynamic yoghurts and milk from The Pines Dairy in Kiama and Kris Lloyd's artisan gourmet products from Woodside Cheese Wrights in South Australia.
We also have cheeses from Onkaparinga Creamery in the Mt Lofty Ranges in South Australia and superb sourdough bread from Allison and Stephen Arnott's Morpeth Bakery in the Hunter Valley."
