Pizza Gusto: Best Canberra restaurants 2015

A tiny wood-fired pizza joint in Braddon you say? Why yes. It's our favourite restaurants this year, and we get to choose places that we really love, even though they might not strictly make a list of hatted restaurants.

Pizza Gusto has been turning out light, crispy, blistered wood fired pizzas since before it was cool. It's a very unadorned shop - tucked in between Lonsdale Street Roasters No. 7 and one of the few remaining auto parts shops in Braddon and the interior dominated by that wood fired oven. They make a perfect little treat on a weeknight when you've got no food in the house and just spent far too much of your day at work.

You can sit at the rare tables scattered outside if the weather is warm but it's much easier to race in and grab a truffle funghi pizza, covered in dark mushrooms and scattered with truffle salt on a garlic infused crisp base. The affetato, filled with slices of ham, Calabrian salami and plenty of curls of prosciutto, is meaty, hearty and well balanced. If only all fast food was this good.
