1+1 Mandarin Dumpling Restaurant

Chinese$$

Pilaf? Kebabs? 1+1’s name might include a simple equation, but its food turns assumptions about Chinese cooking on their heads. The cuisine here is from north-west China, where wheat and lamb predominate and there’s even yoghurt to drink. Walls are painted in proud shades of red and aubergine, and friendly staff are on hand for menu advice. Kick off with batons of cucumber in zingy chilli and garlic dressing. Delicate, wood-handled skewers arrive threaded with lamb pieces, bristling with coarsely ground cumin and chilli flakes. Noodles are made in-house in an array of shapes – try petal-shaped uygun stir-fried with lamb and Chinese cabbage.
