Named after the year that Indonesia gained independence, this smart eatery with its made-to-share food is great for groups. A portrait of women's rights activist, Raden Ayu Kartini, hangs on one of the bright and cheery yellow walls (order one of the traditional drinks and make a toast!). Staff suggest sharing four to five of the smaller dishes between two people. There's juicy chicken sate babi, beautifully nutty and sweet; dendeng sapi balado - fragrant, tender lemongrass beef; and the hearty Indo beef curry, rendang daging. Service is charming and speedy, and the restaurant has its own organic wine.
