This semi-rural trattoria could be more than at home in Sicily's rolling hills, but fortunately the Mammoliti family have chosen Sydney's Hills District instead. It's an enormous converted home where the food may not be breaking any culinary boundaries, where service is sweet and sincere rather than expertly professional, and where portions may be a tad on the larger side. But there's something about this place that just makes you smile. A short, succinct blackboard menu changes weekly according to the availability of local produce, and it shows on the plate. Five plump pumpkin tortellini wade in a mild gorgonzola sauce, while a mountain of shiny tagliatelle sheets wrap themselves around spinach and prosciutto. Butterflied chargrilled quail makes itself comfortable on wilted cavolo nero, while a devilled spatchcock sprawls on a bed of couscous. Desserts are a simpler affair, such as a hazelnut and fig cake, boosted with the addition of house-made vanilla gelato.
