Ajitoya

Japanese$$

A pocket of East Asia in the west: Ajitoya is a bar (specialising in Japanese craft beer), restaurant and grocer rolled into one. But mostly it’s a great option for gorgeously plated food bursting with freshness and flavour. Start with vegetables coated in light, crisp tempura spiced up with green-tea salt, or delicate, silky prawn gyoza. Good-value meal sets come with fresh miso, a deli salad (slippery noodles or wasabi-spiked chicken), fluffy rice and a main - perhaps sashimi-grade salmon and kingfish, or the addictive karaage: tender fried chicken with a crisp potato starch coating. Look for Pocky Sticks in the small stock of Japanese staples.
