Italian

With chequered tablecloths, flickering candles and cosy charm, All' Antica more than lives up to its name, which loosely translates to 'in the traditional way'. The menu of this local favourite offers classic Italian standards in generous serves; from antipasto and calzone to pasta and pizza. It's food made with passion, which is obvious at the first bite - from spinach and ricotta cannelloni in rich Neapolitan sauce to zesty smoked salmon crostini anchored by moreish homemade sourdough. The Sicilian seafood hotpot earns its hype, with tasty chunks of fresh fish joining perfectly cooked mussels, prawns, scallops and baby octopus in an aromatic tomato concasse. It's almost enough to ward off any envy over the veal scaloppine, finished beautifully with lemon thyme creme. Dessert creates a crisis in choice, best served by ordering the tasting plate. Lemon ricotta cake with limoncello syrup and mascarpone creme is the stand-out on a plate featuring tiramisu, panna cotta and gelato. Just don't leave your companion alone with it.
