Italian$$

Visually, Arkibar is based around good architectural aesthetics (one of the owners is an architect), and culinarily, around good food (another owner is the chef). Operating since 1999, it's a restaurant that still ticks so many boxes: the dining room has rich chocolate timber wall panels, white tables and modern artwork, and it serves an evolving Italian menu. There's a printed list with bruschetta and antipasti, as well as constant changes on the blackboard above the front counter, where you'll find soup and pasta, as well as a fish dish and meat. Depending on the season, there may be a spaghettini with ocean trout, salsa verde and pea puree, or a dish of roasted quail, served over a robust eggplant caponata. There may be occasional bare patches in service - with perhaps a wait to be welcomed - but compensation comes in knowledgeable recommendations, particularly of the desserts, where a classic tiramisu or lemon-curd tart come in perfect bite-sizes to round out a vibrant meal with a sweet finish.
