Asakusa

Japanese$$

For loyal regulars the dated chunky pine and muted '80s tones here are far outweighed by the great food, warm service and top value for money. The sprawling menu takes in numerous grill items, donburi and noodle dishes and some excellent sushi and sashimi- made to order by the resident white-clad sushi master. Highlights include the sublime creamy-crunchy salmon skin rolls, perfectly feather-light tempura and the proudly house-made gyoza. The well-priced sushi and sashimi sets showcase the menu's best bits as well as the chef's considerable talent with raw seafood. Despite the quiet-after-five location, you're best advised to book ahead.
