Ashin

Japanese$$

A relative newcomer to Campsie's foodie main street, Ashin offers poised cuisine in a chic and earthy space. Wooden floors, wicker shades, hand-decorated lanterns and shelves of traditional teapots offer calm vibes. Sit at wooden tables for table service or the L-shaped sushi train beside the open kitchen. Order the salted edamame and melt-in-your-mouth agedashidofu on arrival. Platters of sushi, grilled barbecued eel and sashimi are presented with panache. Drag salmon slices through drizzles of balsamic vinegar and chilli and feast on chubby yaki gyoza - fried dumplings stuffed with pork - or Ashin's separate menu of exotic sushi concoctions. Also essential: top-notch green tea, mango and black-bean ice-cream.
