Chinese

Westerners can play it safe by sticking to easy-to-like dishes, maybe handmade pork dumplings plump with Chinese cabbage and garlic chives (15 to a plate, boiled or burnished), and fried noodles tossed with prawns, fishcake and fish roe. And, it has to be said, leave with change from $20. Or, there are Shanghai specialities, such as crispy fried duck (Number 105), where smaller bones add crunch, or sliced eel and wheat-flour noodles in chicken broth. No bookings means you might queue, but swift service means the wait is never long. It's cash only, but such good value you could almost pay with coins.
