The Aussie Youth has made this small patch of the inner city its own. The sandstone pub opened its doors in 1857 and the old-world, cosy feel of the front bar is a nice respite from generic pub aesthetics. The intimate atmosphere continues through to the restaurant in a converted sandstone stable block and the tree-shaded courtyard. A thoughtful range of Australian craft beers and a decent wine list accompany a hearty bar menu of burgers, beer-battered fish, steak, pizzas and hefty beef and Guinness pies. The restaurant takes the dining experience up a notch - linen-draped tables, quiet corners, attentive service and a more grown-up menu.
