Bar Paradiso

Italian

Long before dude food crashed the collective couch of the inner-city dining drags, continental espresso bars were the template for easy socialising. With table football, checked tablecloths and suave guy behind the counter, Paradiso is indeed heaven for those who love the Palermo burger: shredded, braised lamb shoulder topped with a surprisingly subtle combo of chickpea fritters, ricotta and chicory. Breakfast plates are equally lavish, perhaps baked eggs with black olives and oregano. For a sweet hit, doughnuts are cross-hatched with saffron-honey glaze. Look out for extended summer hours for aperitifs.
