Don't diss The Rocks - it's not all fluffy kookaburras and opalescent bling. Slide into Baroque and feast those peepers on a jewel-like display of patisserie. Beautiful desserts really are the major draw here, not that the rest of the smart, casual bistro menu is without its charms. An entree of duck liver and port parfait is generously proportioned, meltingly rich and deeply savoury, while grilled reef fish works well with its accompanying red claw yabby, mussels, kipfler potatoes and lobster bisque. However, a dish of grilled Bangalow pork tenderloin, crisp pig's ear, heirloom carrots and pear puree suffered from being tepid and a little dry, perhaps after languishing too long at the pass. To finish, the intriguingly named 'Zulu' turns out to be a dome-shaped confection of velvety Valrhona chocolate mousse layered with salted caramel ganache on a biscuit base, with berry puree, a mini macaron and a quenelle of vanilla ice-cream. Phew.
