Battambang

Asian$$

Floor-to-ceiling windows cast a bright, cheery light on this humble eatery named for Cambodia’s second largest city. Prices are cheap and cheerful, too, with the case in point being the Phnom Penh noodles: a bargain at $7 a serve. It’s the best seller here and comes with rice noodles, various cuts of pork, offal and umami-rich broth. Order it ‘wet’ or ‘dry’, with the broth on the side. Nom banh chock, a Cambodian classic not often seen in Sydney, has rice noodles and sliced banana flower in a clean fish broth, while fried eel with lemongrass is fragrant with spices.
