If Bavarian Bier Cafe's display of overhanging steins doesn't give a clue, the ringing of the schnapps bell to signal the next round of shots certainly will. This is a good time venue and, yes, it can be noisy, but the gemutlich is infectious and the river views from the semi-circular lounge some of the best in town. Expect a modern twist to the traditional classics of Bavarian cuisine - comfort food rather than cutting edge. Kick off with one of their signature giant pretzels; perfect with a Lowenbrau draught beer. Roast pork belly is generous, and comes with textbook crackling, while Swiss chicken schnitzels are always a crowd pleaser. If you have the appetite, perhaps share an apple strudel served with a more-ish vanilla anglaise. Beer (or 'bier') is the focus of the drinks list, from a Munich Blonde to a fruit-flavoured Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Hell. Despite the often boisterous crowd, cheerful wait staff never seem to lose their good humour.
