Becco is like a love letter to Melbourne - down a laneway, opposite a master shirtmaker and vintage barber, effortlessly exuding retro cool. Though primarily an Italian restaurant, Becco's bar is a stylish, dimly lit, terrazzo-floored destination in itself. Partaking in a Becco Macchiato (vodka, tonic and lime stained with Campari) with Fiorina's stuffed olives is a Melbourne barfly rite-of-passage. Elsewhere, there's a short list of classic cocktails (think Negroni and Pimms), a wine list that loves a good Italian label and booze-appropriate bar snacks - calamari, oysters, pizza. No wonder Becco is a Melbourne stayer. Becco's stylish terrazzo-floored bar has its own dedicated snack menu, which has been something of a template for those that came after. Fiorina's stuffed olives are a must but there's plenty of other good stuff, from chilli calamari to meatballs and mash.
