Italian

There's something of a lounge room vibe at Belgrave Cartel. It might be that it's run by the Bruzzese brothers (with mamma's cooking), or it could be the knocked about decor and '70s-skewed bric-a-brac. Regulars shuffle in with sandy feet fresh from the beach to order the house jaffles, pesto-green eggs and ham, or Rita's rustic pasta of the day. Coffee is their own (Cartel) house blend, amusingly named after a Colombian drug lord (Escobar). It makes a strong, smooth caffe latte ($3) with a hint of cocaine and gunpowder (that's a joke, people). Ideal with a morning side of Sonoma sourdough toast before hitting the beach.
