Italian

From the rough old bare floorboards to the original terrace fireplace with mantelpiece and the shelves covered in kooky ornaments, the Cartel could be the home of an eccentric European artist. Instead, it's home to the three Bruzzese brothers and 'ring-in' Pete Mill, who recently knocked the back wall down. It's now open as a small bar and candlelit restaurant most nights, with a clever little alley of an outdoor garden as well. Their Escobar blend caffe latte ($3.50), the beans roasted by Melbourne's Bean Alliance, has a strong, nutty finish, just the thing to help you segue from cafe by day to bar by night.
