French$$$

Situated within Woolloongabba's eclectic antique quarter, Bistrot rubs shoulders with some pretty stiff competition. Expectations therefore, are high. Certainly it looks the part, housed within a heritage building adorned with period lamps, art deco glass and exposed brickwork. The menu also entices, packed with classic Parisian flair. While in the past there has been inconsistency in both the quality of front-of-house staff and the meals they deliver, recent tweaking in the kitchen seems to signify a shift to a more consistently impressive experience all round, while service too seems more polished. The simple bistro fare is tantalisingly good, with an entree of unctuous pork rillettes perfectly seasoned and the twice-baked cheese souffle - the true gauge of any French eatery; soft, sweet and light as air. The heirloom tomato and chevre salad was also perfection in its simplicity, while the pork belly with apple and celeriac was a well-balanced delight. A little more effort and Bistrot Bistro is sure to reach its full potential.
