Bittersuite

13/20

Even though it's all about the beer, it's all about the sort of food that works with beer too. Nestled away in the leafy verge of New Farm, down near the arts precinct and a short walk from one of the city's most beautiful parks, Bittersuite seems to have plugged right into a need for a comfy, kick-back venue, that takes its food and drink seriously without taking itself too seriously. It's a neighbourhood bar where you can sit, grazing on a hearty ploughman's platter, or moist prawns in a light tempura batter, while you neck the latest craft beer. It's a cool, dark dining room serving up perfectly tender roasted chicken and stout braised short rib pies with mash and mushy peas. It's also a funky outdoor lounge winding its way around the corner under generous, shady eaves where locals can be found lazing and grazing from sun-up until late night on simple fare, bar food really, but done well, with care and the occasional bit of flair.
