Bourke Street Bakery

Contemporary

Row upon row of little tarts, gilded with rhubarb, brulee, berries, meringue and sliced pears - BSB is a venerable sweet treat haven. It’s a basic, casual space and seats inside and out fill fast (if you end up balancing a lemon curd tart and a flat white on the curb outside, you won’t be the first). There’s a good selection of sandwiches, some of which are better toasted (melted cheese, crunchy bread: heaven). Grab a loaf to go; the bread here’s among the best in Sydney. The gems include an olive oil loaf, walnut-and-currant sourdough, and beer-and-rye sourdough - the hard part is choosing.
