Bretts was nearly lost to Brisbane but has received a reprieve against land resumption plans. Thank goodness, for where would those hungry for seafood and local produce go? Brett's timber, polished concrete and glass-walled dining room can be high-volume at capacity so soften your senses with a Queensland chardonnay from a wine list that wanders the world. The charismatic Alastair McLeod is committed to sustainability and supporting local producers so it's no surprise Hervey Bay scallops are a feature, seared just right and served with watermelon, tomato and baby beetroot. New England-style seafood chowder shines with deep seafood aromas and flavours. Brett's seafood plate showcases Queensland prawns, scallops and oysters while barramundi comes pan-fried with an earthy pepper crust. All good things must come to an end, and they do, with wafer-thin pineapple the crown to tropical coconut and kaffir lime panna cotta.
