Steak and chips isn't the most glamorous of dishes, but Bronte Road Bistro's interpretation is so good it has been on the menu since launch. Stewart and Jessica Parsons run this neighbourhood eatery with an eye on quality and an ear to the dining needs of their clientele. The decor successfully walks the line between comfortable and classy, and Matt Barnett's menu offers the flexibility needed for a local bistro. Share some olives followed by a main and glass of wine. Or three courses and a bottle from the reserve list for a special occasion. A generous portion of chicken liver parfait is a good entree to share. Not the seared scallops. they're too delicious to spare a morsel, served with corn puree, almonds and the savoury notes of crisp-fried kale. The steak frites is a simple, well-executed dish, the meat topped with a mustard-spiked cafe de Paris butter and addictively salty fries. A glossy chocolate and raspberry delice (part mousse, part cake) concludes proceedings. Now that's making a night of it.
