Bushrangers Bar & Brasserie

Contemporary$$

This well-regarded local in the tiny Hunter Valley village of Largs is popular for good reason. The service is friendly, the food terrific and the wine list suitably Hunter-centric, with some excellent options in the museum section. An entree of salt-and-pepper squid is fresh and tender, and a chorizo risotto has superb flavour, though it was a little less al dente than the Italian tradition. Beef braciole is a winner, as is sesame pork served on a bed of curried rice noodles and Asian vegetables. Portion sizes are generous, but don’t skip dessert – they’re made in-house, and the baked lemon and lime tart is a stand-out.
