Cafe Kazari

French$$

In the back of Kazari Gallery, this humble cafe produces exquisite Japanese-French fusion lunches. Diners contemplate chef Toshio Aihara's thoughtful menu while gazing out onto a Japanese-style courtyard complete with wooden deck, plum-coloured walls, maples and a stone Buddha. Specials might include a sesame-crusted hapuku fillet in seaweed butter, or tender braised ox tongue with demiglaze. Menu mainstays feature a pan-fried, crisp-skinned salmon fillet served with a buttery miso sauce, an immaculately dressed bowl of baby leaves, steamed brown rice and miso. Finish with a green tea latte and sensational chocolate-azuki cake.
