Contemporary

What is it with Sydney and banana bread? It has such a total stranglehold on the cafe cake scene that it has almost killed off the friand and the Portuguese custard tart. The Kebo boys - Steven, Alfredo and Kevin - bake and sell out of one huge loaf (14 portions) every day, so it's always super-fresh and moist. Their smooth and nutty Morgan's Ruby Fire blend piccolo latte ($3) is another drawcard, as is a bacon and egg roll with house-made chutney and caramelised onions. There's not much atmos inside, although there are a few tables on the street - and most of the trade is take-away so it's not really an issue.
