Italian$$

This lively trattoria, with its white walls, white-clothed tables and white marble bar, is very much at home in the ritzy Hawksburn shopping strip. Drop by and it feels like you're dining with old friends and la famiglia. It's the Italian way, and it says a lot about the owner, Luca Lorusso, who's been sharing dishes he grew up with since 1991. Sometimes service slips but all's forgiven when rustic cucina pugliese comes bouncing out of the kitchen. Risotto of the day might have a subtle beautifully balanced bisque base strewn with Moreton Bay bug meat and aromatic mint. Soft chunks of lamb in rich tomato ragu come wrapped in ragged ribbons of pappardelle. Veal scaloppine gets a piquant kick from lemon and capers. Dolce? There's choc pud, lemon tart and tiramisu but it's hard to pass up panna cotta. Made with creamy yet slightly tart vanilla bean-flecked buffalo yoghurt, it's splashed in sweet figgy syrup and has the right seductive jiggle. Perfetto.
