Cafe Viva

Modern Australian$$

Everything about Viva is inviting: the warm welcome, the sun-drenched room with high ceilings and polished concrete floors and the eclectic menu that provides refreshingly different options from your usual neighbourhood cafe. Eclecticism also extends to the decor, with the room split between a diner feel and cosy table seating with wooden chairs. Scrambled eggs and expertly crisped bacon are done right, as is a breakfast burrito of spicy chicken and beans. A summery salad of rare veal is high on flavour and showcases super-fresh radicchio, sugar snap peas and sweet asparagus, all cleverly balanced by salty capers. Dinner's offered on Thursdays and Fridays, although it breaks the Everyday Eats budget at around $50 per person.
