Modern Australian$$

On a sunny corner down the non-metered east end of Darling Street, Cafe Viva is like a jukebox that’s gone rogue. It does retro diner rock ’n’ roll for groups at booths, complete with ice-cream sundaes, hot dogs and burgers (in ‘man’ and ‘la petite’ sizes). At the same time, it spins more modern tracks to suit diners seated at bentwood chairs, eating chunky kipfler potato roesti with vibrant cured salmon, fennel and cress, or confit duck with pear and pistachio. In between are Top 40 favourite breakfast dishes, and to end - a grand finale of sticky pear and frangipane tart.
