Centennial Hotel

14/20

It's Christmas on a stick to have a flash pub kitchen that's a no-schnitzel zone, favouring antipasti, Italian-style seafood entrees and pizzas with fancy toppings such as 'supressa' (sopressa, guys?) and cavolo nero (Tuscan cabbage). The bar area is ear-splitting on busy nights, so the back bar and bistro or fine-dining restaurant is the place to park if you want something sexier than a $9 bowl of fries. Kingfish carpaccio with pink peppercorns sounds and looks delicious, but it felt like it had been sitting in the fridge for hours. So steer towards the antipasti - chilli whitebait or zucchini fritters - or pizza and dessert if dining bar-side.
