Contemporary

A prime example of why fix what isn't broken, Chill on Tedder has been pleasing local palates for years. Chose a table set with crisp white linen inside, or, for a spot of people-watching, a table in the breezy courtyard. The standard of food belies the casual atmosphere, with chef Daran Glasgow's modern produce-driven menu changing with the seasons. Simple seared scallops on angel hair pasta with tomato beurre blanc and a smoked tomato salsa, however, is a long-term and highly popular menu staple as is the twice-cooked duck leg confit with a port wine jus. Crisp-skinned fillet of salmon on king prawn and coriander egg noodle nests with Asian greens and a ginger and chilli dressing suits balmier weather. The range of siren-song desserts includes a deconstructed banoffee pie and rich Grand Marnier dark chocolate fondant with popping candy chocolate soil. Resistance is futile.
