Chimac

Korean$$

Printed on the menu at Chimac is the adage ‘same, same but different’. Here’s something different: Korean Mexican. The tacos and quesadillas at this pint-sized canteen near the Queen Vic Market are a curious clash of cultures. The tacos (dubbed Ta-Kors) are fresh tortillas piled with saucy beef bulgogi, tofu or spicy pork, topped with shredded cabbage and pickled daikon, then hit with mayo and fiery chilli sauce. The quesadillas are toasted, triangular and oozing cheese. The menu also nods to the Gami empire, with platters of extra-crunchy, ultra-naughty Korean fried chicken and jugs of Thunder Road beer. Same, same but different indeed.
