Contemporary

Welcome aboard, says the life-raft clock. Clipper runs in shipshape style, with its green-and-white striped awning stretched out over the streetside tables like a sail trimmed close to the wind. Comfy big wooden stools and high tables mix happily with plastic flowers, crisp green paintwork, and the odd wall-mounted bicycle. The menu is a mix as well, of tuna salad, gnocchi and prosciutto with poached eggs on ciabatta. And just when you think it might be more style than content, along comes a Coffee Alchemy coffee that's both. A piccolo is dense and intense, with no sharp edges ($3), making the rest of the day plain sailing.
