Clover

Mediterranean

Clover is the sort of cafe you wish was your local (or are glad if it is). The Umami coffee is good, the menu has favourites with just the right twist, and the waiters are hip but not haughty. Eggs come every which way: baked with chorizo and roasted capsicum (and a slab of Sonoma miche to soak up the sauce), poached with prosciutto and pesto, thrown into a hotpot with baked beans, morcilla, feta and caramelised onion or spun into thick French toast with sweetened labna, maple syrup and pistachio. Sun filters through the windows onto the well-worn benches and colourful children's toys hanging from the roof. Flip open the paper, order another coffee, and contemplate moving in down the road.
