Clover’s marriage of cuisines has its roots in a real marriage - the chef is Thai, his wife Japanese. The decor, with saffron walls, paintings by elephant artists (really!) and photographs of misty temples, leans towards the Thai side of things, and the Thai end of the menu is a winner: green curry is a perfect, fragrant union of crunchy and creamy, a red duck curry with tender meat sings with star anise, and banana fritters are rich with sesame. Frame these with the lightness of seasonal tempura and green-tea ice-cream, and you’ll have the match made in heaven the chef intended.
