Like a rose between thorns, Coffee Exchange sits amid a strip of cafes servicing the parliament precinct. The orange Slayer espresso machine proudly positioned in the street-side service window immediately pulls the eye to this inviting bistro-styled spot. But quality, attention to detail and sustainability are what puts the cafe ahead of a crowded pack. Guest fair-trade beans from Abbotsford Convent Bakery produce a luscious, cocoa-tinged macchiato ($3.50). Down it with great house-made sweets such as rich chocolate brownies or savoury options such as mushroom bruschetta on organic Dench toast.
