Commercial Bakery

The cursive script of the neon sign to this blink-and-you'll-miss-it laneway cafe reads 'Italian espresso', but it's not just a generic term for coffee. Commercial Bakery uses Romcaffe for a traditional Italian flavour, extracted with a hand-pumped Victoria Arduino machine. A short black ($3.60) is well executed with a mild flavour backed up by an assertive bitter edge. Perch on stools in the intimate, Art Deco interior and nibble on a baguette of roast beef, horseradish cream and cress salad from the window display. A bench outside makes for an easy espresso hit and run.
